Closing Down of Unleaded: Fuel for Writers

It’s been a long way since the very first post in May of 2009. Even longer since NR Brown and I first discussed setting up a writing-related website. I still remember when and where we came up with the name. We were at a gas station filling up the car.

It has been a long and wonderful journey and we’ve been proud to have some amazing authors. We are also humbled and grateful by folks who have been a part of our community of readers. Thank you.  Y’all are rockstars in my book. 🙂

But like all good things, this too, must come to an end. With the passage of time, I’ve found a significant incease in other responsibilities (work, family, creative endeavors) that take me away from a regular posting schedule. As such, rather than continue to have the site linger, we will be it closing down. There will be no new posts or reviews, however, we will be keeping/leaving the website up for archival purposes. You can still read through all the articles, videos, reviews, and information from our fantastic guests.

Keep reading, keep learning, keep writing!

Best,
Day and the Unleaded Team

WWW: Welcome Back, Us

Alright, this is purely an administrative post to announce that, as of yesterday, this site appears to be stabilized. It’s always tough to know exactly how long something like that will last, but for time time being the site is loading, and loading with the appropriate quickness, and isn’t coughing and sputtering. To pull back the curtain, apparently one of the widgets (those are those bits of information over on the left bar) decided to spontaneously error out on us. I’ve replaced it with a widget that provides the same functionality without the added feature of excreting building materials from its posterior, and the site is working again.

If you have any continuing problems, please let us know in a reply to this post. Otherwise, things should return to normal around here over the next few days.

Unleaded Upset

As some of you may have noticed, the site has had some issues of late.  Unfortunately, that has resulted in the necessity to “roll back” the site.  In doing so, we have lost a few blog posts.  At this point in time we’re working hard to bring back everything from March 18 to this week.  In the interim, posting will continue as usual.  Please bear with us as we beat this computer/website issue into the submission necessary to continue to give you the best discussions we can.  Thanks in advance!

Best,

Day

WWW: Hi, atus

If you follow this blog regularly you’ve probably noticed that Wednesday Writerly Words has been absent lately. This wasn’t a planned hiatus on my part, but a combination of my life getting a little busier than usual, and not coming up with good topics, has led to this space being dark. Fortunately, others have been filling this blog with fantastic content.

As long as I’ve started a hiatus, I’m not going to just randomly end it. Instead, I’m going to take two more weeks and come back in April, recharged and with a few topics brainstormed. Okay, that last part is a lie. I’m going to come back in April frantically deciding what to blog about, as usual.

If you, for some strange reason, miss me, I’ve been a little better about keeping my blog updated, and will continue to do so. Join me there, and see me back here on April 3rd, when I better as hell post now that I’ve promise I’ll do so. As part of the Great Hugo Read we’re currently reading Double Star, the first Hugo winner available on Kindle and through Audible. Next month we start this year’s nominees, to be announced on March 30th and then frantically arranged into a five month schedule the next day.

See you in April!

Hannah’s Voice – Debut Novel from Robb Grindstaff

Just a quick note about Robb Grindstaff, a long-time contributor to Unleaded and all-around good guy, in addition to being a fantastic writer.  🙂  We’re proud to celebrate with him on the release of his debut novel, “Hannah’s Voice.”

Published January 2013 by EVOLVED PUBLISHING

HANNAH’S VOICE, Commercial/Literary Fiction

A little girl’s silence rends a small North Carolina community. When her silence continues into her college years, the entire country divides over her message.

When six-year-old Hannah’s brutal honesty is mistaken for lying, she stops speaking. Her family, her community, and eventually, the entire nation struggle to find meaning in her silence.

School officials suspect abuse. Church members are divided—either she has a message from God or is possessed by a demon. Social workers interrupt an exorcism to wrest Hannah away from her momma, who has a tenuous grip on sanity. Hidden in protective foster care for twelve years, she loses all contact with her mother and remains mute by choice.

When Hannah leaves foster care at age eighteen to search for Momma, a national debate rages over her silence. A religious movement awaits her prophecy and celebrates her return. An anarchist group, Voices for the Voiceless, cites Hannah as its inspiration. The nation comes unhinged, and the conflict spills into the streets when presidential candidates chime in with their opinions on Hannah—patriotic visionary or dangerous radical. A remnant still believes she is evil and seeks to dispatch her from this world.

Hannah stands at the intersection of anarchists and fundamentalists, between power politics and an FBI investigation. All she wants is to find her momma, a little peace and quiet, and maybe some pancakes.

One word would put an end to the chaos… if only Hannah can find her voice.
